Sometimes the planets align (actually they never do as they are all on different orbital planes but I digress): A strong Nor-nor-westerly wind, clear skies, Phil sent to Coventry, a kind offer of an LS7, a winch driver eager to try out his brake modifications, willing ground crew.
It was windy and great care was needed ground handling and 70kt approaches but the ridge worked well even though it was a smidge too westerly for perfection. Winter thermals actually spoiled the ridge a bit but gave a welcome height boost.
